Travel With Me

Having travelled across the country (and a little abroad including Bhutan, Thailand and the Maldives) for the past six years and still counting, I’ve finally sat down and decided that it’s time for me to take my audience on adventures with me and show them my kind of travel.

What do I mean by “my kind of travel”?

Throughout the years, I’ve made conscious efforts to mould my travels into something beyond an ordinary vacation. I like to travel with meaning – whether it is to immerse myself in the local way of living, contribute to local communities, or push my boundaries by adventuring in the Great Outdoors or more – I’ve tried my best to give purpose to my travels beyond a hundred selfies and Instagram dumps!

I’ve always advocated for slow, solo and sustainable travel. And that is the kind of travel I want to show my audience – to show you.

Here are 8 values I plan to incorporate into Wayward Group Adventures:

1. Adventure:

For me personally, a huge part of how I travel is through adventure sports. From kayaking to scuba diving, and paragliding to rock climbing and embarking on every trail I can see going into the forest or up the mountain.

Being out and about in the Great Outdoors is important for me to get closer to a place’s ecology and meet incredible humans along the way.

2. Food:

To get to know any place truly, you must get acquainted with its food too. From local snacks to elaborate meals, and fresh harvest to cooking your own food in the wilderness – these are all experiences that enrich your travels.

3. Culture:

Meeting local people and learning about their ways of life whether it is their nomadic lifestyles or their indigenous way of cooking/ farming/ hunting etc – and even how they celebrate local and religious festivals – all say a lot about a place and its people.

At @waywardadventurers, I don’t take people for granted – for they are the major reason why a certain place is the way it is. So understanding the people’s land, their relationship with God and with Nature will always be an integral part of these travels.

4. Sustainability:

Sustainability can mean a lot of different things and can look different depending on the scale at which you’re doing things. Ranging from ditching single-use plastic, sourcing water from natural sources, eating seasonal and local food, relying on local vendors for most services and ensuring ethical wildlife encounters – I try to do my bit and would love to show how, too!

5. Nature:

The term nature lover has been used to death. But what can one do when most of us feel the most alive in the lap of the Great Outdoors?

Jumping in lakes, chasing waterfalls, staying up all night watching the stars, learning the magic of the Ocean, napping on the soft grass, having a picnic in a field of wildflowers, watching birds go about their business, trying to befriend every animal, insect, critter you chance upon – there is unlimited bounty in Mama Nature.

6. Offbeat Experiences

I’ve always been the one to stay as far away from crowded, overdone touristy traps. And I’ve always been the one who’s wary when people tell her “Oh don’t bother going to XYZ place, there’s nothing to do there”. I love finding obscure experiences even in overdone, crowded destinations because I believe there’s always more than what meets the eye

Through @waywardadventurers, I want you to show that to you too – an alternate way of travel that goes waaaay beyond “top 10 things to do” in any place!

7. Slow Travel

sustainable travel

I’ve always aspired to be the kind of traveller who slows down, stays in the moment and soaks in the present instead of worrying about the next train, plane, or bus to catch, always in search of something new and something more.

These trips are not just to complete a checklist of things to do or hop over from one place to the other, but an experience where each coffee, each conversation, and each sunset is extremely important. Because, after all, it’s these little things that we often remember the most!

8. Community:

For me, some of the most memorable experiences have been with the people I met while travelling, through pure chance encounters. And that’s the kind of community I want to foster with these trips. Where people take a chance in the goodness of strangers, where we’re kind to one another, where we laugh, cry, eat and adventure together.

Because, well you know, happiness is only real when shared!
